Eugene Samuel Grasset

" O woods and thickets,
Planted by the hand of my Beloved!
O green meadow,
Coated, bright, with flowers,
Tell me, has He passed by you?"

I imagine the Bride in a long flowing dress, wearing a satchel across her body. In this satchel she carries all her bad habits, her criticisms, every nasty comment anyone has ever made about her, all these things that we tend to grasp and hold on to for some crazy reason and find difficult to let go of. The Bride is drudging through the thicket when suddenly her satchel becomes caught in a thorny branch and she can't move and is completely stuck! She pulls and struggles and pulls more, getting more and more agitated! She stops struggling for a moment and suddenly she realizes that she doesn't even NEED the satchel! It's actually holding her back! (self-knowledge) So, she wiggles out of the satchel (detachment) and now she is free to continue her search for her beloved Bridegroom!

Lord, help me to detach from anything that causes me to keep away from You! Help me to refrain from holding on to grudges, criticisms, judgements that are meaningless and holding MYSELF captive!

Jesus, I trust in You!
